Understanding our Appointment System

  • Routine appointments are bookable up to 6 weeks in advance.
  • Urgent appointments are available on the day by phoning the Surgery from 8.30 am Monday – Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).
  • Our admin staff are trained ‘Care Co-ordinators’. They will ask you the nature of your problem so they can signpost you to the most appropriate health professional.

Minor ailments:

  • You may be directed to a local pharmacy.
  • They can help with hayfever; athletes foot; diarrhoea; skin rashes; eye infections; mouth ulcers; verruca’s; chickpox and any more minor ailments
Pharmacy First Scheme – Barton Surgery

‘Pharmacy First’ scheme:

 

  • Pharmacists can supply prescription only medication, where clinically appropriate, for seven common problems: sinusitis; sore throat; earache; infected insect bites; impetigo; shingles; uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women.
  • Dawlish Minor Injury Unit is open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 17:00, by appointment only. Please call 01626 895203 to make an appointment. See: Newton Abbot Community Hospital – Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. They are open 7 days a week 08:00 – 20:00.
  • If your GP asks you to make a routine appointment, this can be in up to 6 weeks- time.
  • For ongoing problems, we will try to book you in with the same doctor to ensure we can offer the best continuity of care.
  • Please arrive on time. If you’re late, we may not be able to see you, as we have other patients to see.
  • The doctor may not be able to deal with all your problems in one appointment, as they have limited time.
  • Write down the important things you need to talk to your doctor about.
  • If you are unable to attend, please let us know in advance. In March, 280 patients did not attend. These appointments could have been offered to other patients.
